We’re inviting the JavaScript community to submit talks for Nordic.js 2018 that will take place 6-7 September. There is no deadline to submit a proposal as we add speakers continuously throughout the year, but the sooner you submit the better.

We don't have a specific theme for Nordic.js. Instead, we’re aiming to select talks that are interesting to as many JavaScript developers as possible. However, we like the talks to touch on one of these three topics (% shows how many from each topic we like):

  • ~30%: Future of JavaScript
  • ~50%: Things people can bring right back to work
  • ~20%: Fun, crazy, or fascinating code projects

Our audience skill level is intermediate to advanced.

Maybe you're not interested in standing on stage but you know the perfect person that would give an interesting talk? Please suggest a speaker!

What we're looking for

Keynotes are 50 min while regular presentations are 15 or 30 min and all talks should be in English.

People come to Nordic.js to get inspired and learn more about JavaScript. We love talks that have a unique point of view and can support in pushing the community as a whole forward. If you’ve already given your proposed talk somewhere else, we’d appreciate if you sprinkle it with some fresh examples and/or new information.

Every year we do a feedback survey to hear what attendees love and what they'd like to see more of. Here are some key phrases that could be of use when writing your proposal.

  • Push the boundaries
  • Be pedagogic and straightforward
  • Care about the audience, not your ego
  • Be practical - show tools you can use right away
  • Spark interest

The proposal should be short and sweet. Get to the point and mention what value it could bring the JavaScript community and/or individual developers in their day to day work.

To have a complete proposal you need to have a video of yourself. If you don’t have something recorded already, we encourage you to create a short video (2-3 minutes) of yourself presenting your session. What we’re looking at is your passion, knowledge, and personality as a speaker. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Keep proposals free of marketing and sales. Product pitches are automatic rejects. Lessons learned from building or running your product, however, can be invaluable.

We take an active part in promoting inclusivity and openness, not only at our conference but in the design and tech scene overall. We’re therefore very proud over having had a gender equal speaker lineup at Nordic.js 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. For 2018, we’re working towards having an even more diverse lineup of speakers.

We can help!

We welcome everyone who wants to give a talk and have a fresh perspective. You don’t have to have a ton of experience from talking at other conferences. We believe anyone can become a speaker and we’re here to help and guide you to develop the skills you need to deliver a great talk. Let us know what you need help with and we’ll do our best to support you
